Castle season 7 is premiering Monday (Sept. 29), but will Richard Castle return with his show? Following the mysterious car crash that ended both season 6 and the Castle-Beckett wedding in the spring, that’s very much in question.
Fortunately, Castle actress Tamala Jones has some things to say about what’s coming in the new season for Lanie and the rest of the show.
What can you spill about season 7?
Jones: I can tell you, we are picking up right where we left off from the season finale, Castle’s car accident. It’s really, really good stuff. As far as Lanie goes, you are going to see a lot more of Lanie, a lot more of the girlfriend scenes between Lanie and Beckett.
Will there be any movement on the relationship between Lanie and Esposito?
Jones: A little birdie told me, by episode 10, we’re going to be able to get a little more information about Lanie and Esposito. Where is their relationship headed? Are they going to do it? Will they break up? I heard that we’re gonna explore that a little bit more. But I really don’t have any confirmation on that. [The writers] don’t tell us, because they know we’re gonna tell!
How will Lanie be involved in the investigation about what happened to Castle?
Jones: Lanie’s used to working with dead bodies. In this case, we know that the show is called Castle, so this is the last time, I’m sure, we’re going to see him. [laughs] Lanie is Beckett’s best friend, so Lanie is going to help her girlfriend out to figure out what happened, what’s going on, the best way that she can.
Whether Castle survives or not, will this incident cause changes in the character dynamics of the show?
Jones: Yes. Definitely going to see some new dynamics between all these characters. It’s going to be explored a lot more. The writers are impeccable and they’re quite genius in their writing. I’ve loved every season of Castle, but this is the best to me. This is like the best of the best!
What do you want to see for Lanie in the future?
Jones: I would like to see Lanie get a little bit more involved in different cases that we have going on. I’d also like to see a little bit of Lanie’s past. Why is she a little bit of a commitment-phobe? Why is she the way that she is? Because she’s got a wall up. What created that wall? I’d love to see that.
